Site History
The building was previously used as a tire warehouse. Previous uses are unknown although old photos show Union Avenue as a residential street with fine Victorian homes during the early history of Memphis.

Eyewitness Reports of Paranormal Activity
Owner Fred Charron sighted a male apparition on the ground floor near the elevator. The apparition was described as being dressed in 50's style clothing of white t-shirt and dark pants. Fred's initial impression was that the figure resembled James Dean in appearance. On a separate occasion, Quetzal employee Vlad Yermzin sighted a dark humanoid shadow that walked through a door near the north entrance. He also witnessed a motion activated towel dispenser in the kitchen being activated on three separate occasions when no one was near it.

Investigation Report
Entire Building Starting at 10:00 PM, Southern Phantom and Rich swept the ground floor and second floor of the building using two different models of EMF meters. The building had a consistent flat base reading of 0-1 milliGause throughout both floors except in the immediate vicinity of electrical devices such as computers which was expected. One large spike was reported by Rich in the southeast corner of the ground floor where no electrical equipment is located. Rich also swept both floors of the building using a Geiger counter and noted unusual readings in the roof area which was accessible from the second floor. All team members took numerous digital photos in all areas of the building and S. P. also took photos using a disposable 35mm camera.
Ground Floor After placing her analog IR NightShot video camcorder on a tripod, Michele videotaped the area where a dark shadow was seen walking through a door by Quetzal employee Vlad Yermizin. S. P. positioned his analog IR NightShot video camcorder on a tripod to cover the area where owner Fred Charron had witnessed an apparition. S. P. also placed a Sacagawea gold dollar coin as a "trigger object" on piece of paper on the floor of the open shaft lift elevator and drew an ink circle around it to determine if it would be moved as it has been in past investigations. Shaina placed her analog audio recorder underneath the floor of the open shaft lift elevator where the coin was placed.
Second Floor S. P. placed his analog audio recorder on the second floor near the entrance of an open shaft lift elevator. Rich also placed his analog audio recorder on the second floor in an area where the original stairwell had been removed and boarded over. S. P. also placed an IR motion detector in this area, but no positive evidence was obtained from it. Later during the investigation, S. P. set up his digital IR NightShot video camcorder on a tripod on the second floor open loft area to videotape the ground floor area where an apparition had been sighted.
Paranormal Activity During the investigation no unusual sounds or noises were noted. Around 11:15 PM, S. P. played a CD with Buddy Holly songs from the 1950's and a shadowy movement was noticed on the second floor loft by Rich who asked other team members to take photos. Several photos taken by S. P. from the loft looking down to the ground floor showed bright orbs in motion.

Rich recorded this EVP as he was preparing to place his recorder on the boarded up area on the second floor where the original stairs had been. You'll hear him talk about doing that and then a male voice responds with two or three whispered syllables. Here's another EVP captured in the same boarded up area on the second floor where the original stairs had been. It sounds like the voice of a teenage boy which would fit with the description of the apparition sighted in the cafe. What do you hear? We'd like to know. Email your interpretation to us.

Investigation Conclusions
Rich, Mervin, Shaina, and Charly left around 12:15 AM, and Michele and S. P. ended the investigation at 1:10 AM. Although several of our digital photos captured stationary and moving light anomalies, and we also recorded several EVPs on the second floor, we cannot reach a final conclusion about the reported paranormal activity at the Quetzal Internet Cafe until we conduct a follow-up investigation.
