The Ghost Meter
Review by Southern Phantom
Every paranormal investigator or ghost hunter dreams of finding an inexpensive piece of equipment that's a reliable indicator of paranormal activity. The Ghost meter from CellSensor may not be the final answer, but after using it in the field for several months, we're convinced that it comes close!
This meter has quickly become one of our favorite investigation tools due to its low cost, compact size, ergonomic shape, simplicity of use, sensitivity, durability, and reliability for measuring fluctuations and intensities of electromagnetic energy fields. Why is it important to be able to detect fluctuations and strengths of the these fields?
All matter is composed of electrical particles (electrons, protons, and neutrons), and all electrical charges are surrounded by a magnetic field. Together, these electrical charges and magnetic fields create measurable electromagnetic energy. Electromagnetic energy fields are commonly called EMFs. Even the human body is surrounded by a weak electromagnetic field.
Normally, higher EMF emissions are created whenever man-made electrical power flows through a wire, conductor, or appliance. These electromagnetic fields cannot be seen, felt, or heard, but they are present in and around all electric lines and devices. EMF meters easily detect and identify the higher energy fields surrounding electrical equipment because man-made fields remain constant.
However, electromagnetic fields at reputed haunting locations tend to be erratic and fluctuate in strength rather than remain constant like man-made EMFs. The exact nature of the connection between erratic, fluctuating EMFs and paranormal activity is speculation at this point. The good news is that other types of paranormal detection equipment such as cameras and audio or video recorders will frequently yield successful results when these strange EMF readings are detected. Translation: It's a good time to take photos, record audio, or roll some videotape in hopes of documenting an anomaly when an EMF meter displays an extreme reading!
Our experiences using the Ghost Meter in a residence where we disconnected all man-made power sources confirm our belief that unexplained paranormal electromagnetic energy fields definitely affect this meter. We especially like the Ghost Meter because it has been calibrated to ignore the extremely subtle EMF emissions surrounding the human body, yet is sensitive enough to detect the small, distinct, erratic EMF energy fluctuations frequently found at reputed haunted locations.
EMF emissions are measured in units called milligauss (mG). The Ghost Meter provides three corroborating indicators of EMF emission strength. First, an analog needle readout displays EMF emission strength ranging from 0 to 50 milligause. Second, two light emitting diodes (LEDs) flash faster as the EMF emission strength increases. Finally, a volume adjustable audio signal beeps faster as the strength of the EMF emission increases (the volume can be adjusted to silent mode if desired). With three different types of indicators, the Ghost Meter makes it easy to locate paranormal EMF energy!
We have seen this meter repeatedly spike into the high 50+ milligauss range and then drop back to the normal range in response to questions we asked at an investigation site. We are still exploring the use of this meter as a communication device with these unexplained psychic energy fields, and we're extremely excited about the possibilities for two-way communications.
The Ghost Meter's LEDs are extremely bright and can be easily seen during the day or night. The response time of this meter is excellent, easily outperforming more expensive EMF meters. It can also be operated in silent mode so it doesn't interfere with EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) recordings or distract other investigators during an investigation. Could there be a more perfect EMF meter for ghost hunters and paranormal investigators?
This device uses a single 9 volt battery and seems to draw minimal battery power during operation. The meter is activated by pressing a button on the top of the case and will stay operational until the button is pressed again.
The Ghost Meter and the K-II Safe Range EMF Meter reviewed elsewhere on our website are calibrated almost identically. We use both to "sweep" a location in search of fluctuating EMFs and then employ a pair of them as a "check and balance system" after the epicenter of the energy field has been located. Practical and affordable, one or two of these EMF meters should definitely be included in your essential ghost hunting equipment!
PROS Inexpensive. Lightweight. Compact size. Ergonomic design. Silent mode. Three indicators of EMF field strength. Bright LEDS visible day or night. Simple to use. Durable construction. Long lasting battery. Possible spirit communication device.
CONS Will pick up cell phone tower communications so cell phones must be turned off and left elsewhere during investigations. Plastic body will not survive intact when dropped onto a hard surface such as concrete (speaking from experience).
